Assignment #3: Do Something Kind For Someone You Do Not Know

This week’s exercise is intended to help you to experience how it feels to do something kind when repayment is not likely. Please extend a kindness action to a stranger, someone you do not know on a personal level. Typically, these are the people you pass by or hear about as you go on with your day. It’s holding the elevator door open for someone. It’s anonymously buying coffee for someone behind you in line at the coffee shop. It’s going to the library and putting up money for the next $10 worth of fines. That sort of thing.

Before completing your act, please take two minutes to watch this video. Consider it inspiration.

After having completed your act, please post in the appropriate comments section what you did. Again, be sure to remind us who you are when you post. And for fun, please consider telling us your favorite dessert.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

  1. Today on my weekly Burgerville run, a somewhat elderly woman dropped loose change she had in a little pouch all over the street, so I stopped to help her pick it up. The funny part is that the lady didn't even thank me, she just walked away after she got all of the change back. I didn't actually think about this assignment when I helped her, it just seemed like the rational thing to do.

  2. I decided to kill three birds with one stone and post all of my kindness assignments in one comment. 1. For the first assignment I went and got a pedicure with my mom. This was so nice because I wasn't only able to get my nails painted but I also got to spend time with my mom. 2. For the second assignment I gave my mom an acupuncture treatment to get rid of a head ache she had. 3. For the third I went out and bought a pumpkin. I then attached a note saying something like "Here's a gift. Have a happy halloween!" and then dropped it off at a random person's house. This was so fun and I know I made someone smile.

  3. Let me start with a story...
When I was younger, maybe 9, my family and I went to our favorite crape restaurant. They had a row of gum ball and candy machines. While we were waiting for a table, I went down the line turning the knobs, just for fun. Then I got to the end and candy came out. I ran over to my parents and they told me I could eat it. It made my day. FREE CANDY!!!! I guess someone had left a quarter in it.
So that's what I did. Left a quarter in a gumball machine, so the next person to come along will get a free gumball. =D

  4. I know this is a bit late, but oh well.
The other day I went across the street to a group of people that sends books to prisoners. People in jail all over the world write to them for a book or books on certain topics. I knew that these people in jail have very little to do and a lot of downtime, and the books I send them could be used to turn their life around. And even though in most cases it was an anonymous deed, it felt good to make such an impact.
