Assignment #2: Do Something Kind For Someone You Love

The idea this week is to get us in the habit of doing kind things for others. It need not be something extraordinary; in fact, sometimes what may seem like a small act carries the greatest importance to those we love. Just make sure it is a mindful act and is something EXTRA, something you do BECAUSE of this assignment. After having completed your act, please post in the comments section what you did. For some of you this assignment may be easier than doing something kind for yourself. If so, try to do another kind act for yourself this week AND a kind act for someone you love.
Additionally, be sure to remind us who you are when you post (there are so many of us that a short reminder will help us know each other better). If you didn’t introduce yourself last week, be sure to do so this week. At the very least tell us your name and where you are from.
Some ideas: Tell your mom or dad you love them. Help a friend with a chore. Do something loving with a family member you normally don’t do. Give someone close permission to do something they want to do that you don’t normally like (and try to like it).
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“This is my simple religion. There is no need for temple; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” –The Dalai Lama

  1. Inspired by Ben, I cooked pancakes for my family. I need to cook more often, it's just something which tends to be forgotten and waylaid upon the course of daily life for me, but for my mother it's a chore. I often help with dinner, and always clean up, but it is interesting to see the contrast.

  2. For my kindness assignment I rode my bike to the library to get a CD my Mother wanted. Then I loaded the CD to her iPod. She was very appreciative, cause she doesn't know how to find CDs at the library and she couldn't even go if she wanted. (she has to study all the time)
    I had a great time doing this;
    1. It was good exercise
    2. It was something to do
    3. Most important it made my Mother happy :D

  3. I made oatmeal cookies for the family. I didn't just make them though, I left out the raisins in some for Sarah, cuz she hates raisins. (She did ask, but I could have said no, so it counts)

  4. I cleaned out the refrigerator. Usually one of my parents does this, so I did it instead. It didn't take long to get rid of all of the old food, but it still saved time for my parents.

    And then, since it was pretty easy to clean out the fridge, I did something nice for myself. I did all of the work that I would normally do later in the day, done early, so then I had the rest of the day to relax and not worry about doing it later, which did make it a more enjoyable day.

  5. I did all the dishes and cleaned the counters and sink for my family. Although I help out with the cleanup, usually my mom or dad does the majority of the work.
    It really didn't take that long, and I listened to my Ipod and it went by really quickly.
    I usually shy away from cleaning up the kitchen (I find it very remedial and frustrating), but it felt nice to do something really simple that made my parents a little less tired, and let them know that I care about them.
